I had expected this phase of my professional career would end with me getting a full time job for an organization or agency running their sustainability program. However, the message I am getting is that my lack of professional sustainability experience makes hiring me a risk.
As I worked to renew my connections in Reno other opportunities have started to present themselves, both paid and unpaid (for details, see my “Projects” page on this web site). What amazes me is that this is exactly the future for which I hoped. I am working with others in the community to implement ways (e.g., consuming more local food, increasing use of public transportation, better organic waste management) to create a sustainable community.
At the same time, as noted on my “Values in Action” page I can not loose sight of the larger vision of restoring all of the systems that ensure we have a sustainable life in Northern Nevada. I must keep that larger picture in mind while working on the individual projects. This includes helping others to understand the severity of the situation in which we find ourselves and how they can be empowered to make changes to change our trajectory.
Onward!
